Floodland Reviews

Explain the impact of the flood on three characters. How does the disaster cause  the characters to show certain attitudes, morals and actions?

The flood affected many people and have changed throughout the story. Such as: Dooby, He is now violent and cruel. But before that he used to have parents and he also used to be happy; Natasha, she used to work and be grateful for what she had but that all changed after the flood, she is now desperate nearly even greedy for food, shelter and safety but most of all to get of the island of Norwich; Zoe, before the flood she had parents and used be clever and be thankful for being alive. But now being influenced by people and a crazy and scary place she is selfish and has no sympathy.

How does the author deal with the theme of bullying?

In the story, bullying is quite severe as it is physical and includes beating and other physical contact. Dooby plans to bully Zoe by using her from the moment she stepped onto the beastly land. He wants Zoe to get him out of trouble and off the island. "Look Zoe I'm not taking it from you. Like I said,  I want your help. And I want that boat to get us, me and you, out of here. " This is a piece of text where Dooby bully's Zoe by hinting a little bit of his plan, not even telling her when why and how not forgetting the rest of the plan. Spat bully's Zoe to make her look weak in the eyes of Dooby so that Dooby thinks more of Spat instead of Zoe.
